Moss Completes Construction of Maui Affordable Rental Project

Moss Construction, [teaming with architecture firm Design Partners Inc.], recently completed a 120-unit affordable rental project on Maui called Kaiwahine Village, where the first residents moved in last month.

The two-story Kihei project was developed by the nonprofit Ikaika Ohana, with two- and four-bedroom units for families earning 30%, 40%, and 60% of the area median income.

The first 10 tiny homes aimed at housing homeless military veterans are scheduled to go up next month in Kalaeloa as part of a new, wider approach to quickly develop permanent housing communities for homeless adults who have been living the longest on Oahu’s streets.

As part of our ongoing community outreach programs, Design Partners Incorporated has been working with Home Aid Hawaii board members to design the tiny homes in Waimanalo.

Kapiolani Boulevard is becoming a magnet for new hotel projects

No one is redrawing the edge of Waikiki, but a growing number of planned hotel projects on Kapiolani Boulevard promise to stretch the primary urban zone for vacation accommodations on Oahu.

A local high-tech entrepreneur is the latest developer to propose a hotel on Kapiolani — and it’s the biggest one to date by far.

Fred Chan of KC Rainbow Development Co. unveiled plans last week for a 45-story hotel with 785 units close to the Hawaii Convention Center on a site next to the planned Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Residences tower slated for 125 hotel rooms and 99 residential condominiums [in partnership with Design Partners Incorporated].

Honolulu officials unveil plans for affordable senior housing at former Aiea sugar mill site

The city is on the verge of signing a development agreement with a nonprofit organization that is designed to transform the former Aiea sugar mill site into an affordable rental housing complex for seniors.

City officials and others involved with the project, including the nonprofit developer EAH Housing [in partnership with Design Partners Incorporated], were on hand today at the property to announce the 140-unit complex, which will be called Halewiliko Highlands, or “house of sugar.”

The project is designed to charge rents affordable to seniors – those 62 and older – earning no more than 60% of the area median income. Some of the units will be reserved for those earning 50% and 30% of median income.

Design Partners Incorporated was present and named at the blessing for the Waimea Huakai project. About a hundred people collected at the site for a blessing ceremony coordinated by Kaiwa Construction to prepare the land where 67 units of homeownership and affordable rentals will rise. The project, the Waimea Huakai Housing Development, is a partnership with Kauai Habitat for Humanity, the Ahe Group and the County of Kauai.

The developer of a planned residential tower with condominiums and rental apartments on Keeaumoku Street near Ala Moana Center held a blessing for construction Monday.

An affiliate of ProsPac Holdings Group held the event for its Azure Ala Moana project featuring 330 market-priced condos and 78 affordable rental apartments.
