Sasebo Elementary School

This project will construct a new, three story 5,735 sm (61,728 sf) Elementary School to replace the existing Sasebo Elementary School at Commander Fleet Activities Sasebo (CFAS), Sasebo, Japan. The new school will serve approximately 250 students from Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) through Grade 6 and will incorporate the new Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) 21st Century Education Facilities Specifications. The facility will include Pre-K/Sure Start Learning Studios, Kindergarten, Learning Studios, first through sixth grade Learning Studios, Exploratory Learning Spaces, (multi-purpose) Commons area, Full Service Kitchen, Gymnasium, Information Center, Administrative Offices, Counseling Offices and miscellaneous support spaces. The project scope will also include utilities, paving, sidewalks, covered walkway, curbs, gutters, drainage, loading/unloading area, playground, play lots, play courts, signage, landscaping, and site/security lighting.
The project program addresses DODEA’s 21st Century Education Facilities Specifications, functional relationships, phasing, constructability, budget, environmental impact, US Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (USGBC LEED) requirements, and Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection (ATFP).
